Bellefield Curriculum Overview

Science

Science is important at Bellefield because it gives our children the opportunity to develop enquiring minds that will enable them to be curious learners and understand the world around them. We aim for our children to be curious about the world and have a passion for learning about science. We aim for the children to develop their ability to think independently and raise questions they may have about the world. We aim for our children to have the scientific skills to be able to investigate these questions and to understand the implications of science for today and for the future.

EYFS

In EYFS, Science is covered in the ‘The Natural Word’ Early Learning Goal in the EYFS curriculum. Children develop their skills of observation, prediction, critical thinking and discussion indirectly through play. Children are encouraged to ask why they think things happen the way they do and are given the opportunity to explore their questions in practical ways. Learners are given access to picture books that explore scientific ideas.

Looking at changes of season and the natural effect on the world, through walks and outdoor play.

Describe what they see, hear and feel whilst outside- recognising familiar plants and animals.
