Welcome to Cedar's Class page!
Class Teacher: Mrs James (previously Miss Martin)
Class TAs: Miss Case & Mrs Bouchama
Cedar Class will have Mrs Harris teaching them on a Tuesday morning.
What are we going to learn about?
We are learning about the First World War in Cedar Class this term! Find out how we will be exploring our topic in all areas of the curriculum by downloading our topic plans here, here and here. We are hoping to expand our knowledge of this important period of history by visiting the local Trowbridge Museum in the Autumn Term (dates to be confirmed).
For our topic, we will be using the fictional book Archie's War by Marcia Williams as a focus. Archie, our main character, writes in a scrapbook throughout the First World War. We experience and learn about the world during this time through Archie's eyes in comics strips, photos, thoughts and jokes.
Homework and Spellings:
Throughout the year, we will be setting homework tasks and spelling patterns on a weekly basis. The expectation for homework is that it will be sent home on a Friday and will need to be completed and returned by the following Wednesday - homework tasks should take approximately 30 minutes of quality learning time.
New spelling patterns will also be sent home each Friday for the children to learn, the spelling records will need to be brought back in by the following Wednesday and the children will be tested on their spellings on a Friday morning.
Our PE day over Term 1 & 2 is Thursday. We will be starting off our year by doing Dance with Caroline on a Thursday morning. PE kits will need to be kept in school and changed into when it is our lesson time. Year 4's will then have the opportunity to do swimming weekly starting on the Thursday 4th November 2021 until Thursday 17th February 2022 (excluding Thursday 16th December). The dates are as follows:
November – 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
December – 2nd 9th
January – 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
February – 3rd, 10th 17th
This will always be on a Thursday afternoon and swimming kits will need to be brought in. Year 5's will also be doing their PE on a Thursday afternoon; this will be gymnastics with Lisa.
Everyone in Cedar Class will be given a reading record and a reading book to read every evening. We will award a bookmark for every fifty reads that are completed at home (when the reading entry is signed by an adult). The children will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school.
Please could you ensure that your child has a small, healthy snack for snack time. They could bring in a piece of fresh or dried fruit, or vegetable (e.g. carrot sticks, cucumber etc). Please also remember that nuts are not allowed in school due to allergies. Thank you!
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us on our class email: email@example.com
Cedar's World War 1 Dance
