Welcome to Cedar's Class page!

20th June - Fire Safety and Fire Engine visit

We were very excited to have the opportunity to look around a fire engine at school today. They showed us around the truck and explained the different equipment and how it was all used. We also took part in a fire safety workshop, where we found out more about the dangers in our homes and how we can prevent hazardous situations from occurring.

8th June - A Taste of Shakespeare Workshop

"All the world's a stage and all the men and women are merely players." We had an excellent afternoon with a visitor from Divergent Drama, who led a Shakespeare workshop with us. Throughout the afternoon, we talked about who William Shakespeare was and what he was famous for. We then moved on to participating in a variety of drama activities, including: practising our Shakespearian insults, pretending to be different characters and acting out scenes from a range of Shakespeare's plays.

27th May - Jubilee Celebrations and Hot Chocolate

Throughout the day we have been celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We have created some majestic artwork, dressed in red, white and blue or as Kings and Queens. We also had a celebration on the field with the whole school this afternoon, involving cupcakes and dancing! As part of our celebrations, we each got a turn on the bouncy castle too.

In addition to the Jubilee celebrations, our class were the first to win the Hot Chocolate cup for their excellent behaviour and respect shown in collective worship times across last week. As a result, we all went and had hot chocolate, a biscuit and enjoyed some stories with Mrs Withers.

17th May - 'Bling your ride'

Children across the school brought in their 'blinged-up' rides today to celebrate the new cycle routes and crossings on Hilperton Road. They were encouraged to decorate their bike, scooter or shoes with things such as streamers, shiny or reflective material or painted cardboard. Below are some photos of Cedar's rides!

13th May - Pyjamarama!

Today we have been celebrating Pyjamarama! The children have all come in "dressed" in their pyjamas, dressing gowns and onesies. We have participated in Drop Everything and Read, had a story time and we also did a paired read with Chestnut Class. The children all enjoyed sitting outside and sharing stories with the children in Chestnut.

27th April - Visit from Mark Robertson

We were very excited to be visited by the author and illustrator Mark Robertson. During the visit, Mark told us about his work and also shared some of his stories with us. Then, we took part in a drawing workshop where we learned step-by-step how to draw a dragon!

What are we going to learn about?

This term we are going to be doing a history topic, learning all about the Tudors! Find out how we will be exploring our topic in all areas of the curriculum by downloading our topic plan here and our knowledge organiser here. Throughout the topic, we will discover more about the Tudor times and how life was different then compared to now. We will learn more about Henry VIII and his wives as well as the key historical events that happened within the Tudor time period. We will also be spending time learning about some of the works of the famous playwrite and poet William Shakespeare.

New spelling patterns will also be sent home each Friday for the children to learn, the spelling records will need to be brought back in by the following Wednesday and the children will be tested on their spellings on a Friday morning.

The children will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school.

Please could you ensure that your child has a small, healthy snack for snack time. They could bring in a piece of fresh or dried fruit, or vegetable (e.g. carrot sticks, cucumber etc). Please also remember that nuts are not allowed in school due to allergies. Thank you!
