Bellefield Curriculum Overview
Geography |
|||||||||||||||||
Geography is important at Bellefield because it provides opportunities for the children to learn about places, people, cultures and enhances their global understanding. We believe that Geography helps children to successfully navigate their world. Our aim is to develop children's geographical thinking and knowledge and enhance their global understanding and citizenship through Geography. We also aim to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination with the world that will stay with them throughout their lives; we provide them with opportunities to explore different cultures, localities and processes in order to begin answering these curiosities.
Reception - Links to EYFS Children in the EYFS are learning to understand the world in which they live, starting with their immediate environment and community. Children learn about the world around them through stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems. The Reception children use their ‘Super Six books’ to introduce the children to different geographical concepts for example, they learn about the environmentalist David Attenborough.
Early Learning Goal: People, Culture and Communities Children at the expected level of development will: - Describe their immediate environment using knowledge from observation, discussion, stories, non-fiction texts and maps; - Explain some similarities and differences between life in this country and life in other countries, drawing on knowledge from stories, non-fiction texts and – when appropriate – maps.
Early Learning Goal: The Natural World Children at the expected level of development will: - Explore the natural world around them, making observations and drawing pictures of animals and plants; - Know some similarities and differences between the natural world around them and contrasting environments, drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class; - Understand some important processes and changes in the natural world around them, including the seasons and changing states of matter.
