British Values

At Bellefield we actively promote British Values, as defined under the Ofsted guidance 2014, through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum and teaching.

The government define these values as:

  • Democracy
  • The Rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths

As a church school, we value tolerance and respect of all ethnic and religious backgrounds of our pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. Through collective worship we link together Christian values, values from other faiths and British values. Our five key values are respect, responsibility, courage, friendship and honesty which link directly to British values.

We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our school community and the wider world. We actively challenge children, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British Values.

Please note that British values are implicit within our five key values. Whilst our children can talk about our five key values we do not expect them to talk explicitly about "British" values. As a multicultural school we also recognise that other nations hold similar values.
